Japanese Katagami Kimono Stencil Katazome
Japanese Katagami is a stencil pattern for dyeing textiles used for printing designs and patterns on kimono and other fabric items.
Using traditional mulberry washi paper, this katagami stencil with silk backing features a swirl of stars.
This vintage Katagami is made of two or more layers of handmade mulberry washi paper laminated together and waterproofed with persimmon tannin. Katagami printing uses a technique called resist dye where a paste is applied to the fabric with the katagami before dipping in ink. The open space on the katagami will be a negative space in the printed design.
