Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) represents a classic landscape scenery featuring mountains in the background, a waterfall, and a river in the foreground. The human presence is depicted by houses and a man crossing a bridge on the foreground. The kakejiku has colored (mostly green) accents. It is joyful and vivid. This piece is not signed.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
