Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku

This is a vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) representing a black-and-white landscape. There is a mountain with some small buildings such as a temple. The buildings are small compared to the mountain and the trees' size. Two small humans are painted. This piece is signed by an artist Hakuun and red seals.

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
