Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features an illustration of a statue of Nichiren, a Japanese Buddhist priest and philosopher of the Kamakura period. This paper was made to commemorate the statue's construction. There are words on the left. This piece is signed with a name and red seals.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. It was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan and has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room, and Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
