Vintage Japanese Clay Bell Dorei
This is a vintage Japanese clay bell, Dorei or Tsuchi-Suzu, that features the famous Sapporo Clock Tower in brown with a white roof. This wooden clock tower is a symbol of the city of Sapporo and despite being built in 1878, it still chimes every hour. There is a tan string attached at the top.
Dorei bells have a long history and have been used in festivals and ceremonies since the Jomon period (about 13000 to 2300 years ago) when they were said to have the power to ward off evil spirits.
