This is a vintage Japanese ceramic plate. This round, medium-sized plate, also called sara, is a dark, glossy brown with a textured ripple design on the top surface. It has small cushion pads on the bottom to prevent scratching on surfaces and provide traction. Because the design is so textured, this plate is likely used for decoration or for serving snacks or displaying fruit.
