Antique Japanese Pottery Sake Bottle Kayoi-Tokkuri

This is an antique Japanese ceramic sake bottle. It is called a kayoi-tokkuri and is used to pour and store sake. The commuting sake bottle became popular as a rental container for liquor stores in the Edo period when sake began to be consumed daily. This bottle is a beige color with a handpainted indigo blue floral and grass motif painted all around as well as various simple linework. This particular tokkuri bottle has an elegant long neck with a rounded lip and is an excellent choice for a flower vase or general home decor.
