Vtg Japanese Buddhist Altar Butsudan Decorative Parts
This is a vintage Japanese part of a Buddhist altar, or butsudan. It is called shumidan or Sumeru Altar. It is the last tier before reaching the Buddha in this representation. The design is carved from wood and features a simple design lacquered in black and red. At the base, there are brass metal embellishments. It is missing the top piece. There are two slots on the inside edge of the center brackets that, for repurposing purposes, could be made into a frame or reconfigured entirely.
