Japanese Buddhist Costume Sash

This Japanese Buddhist costume surplice (wagesa or hangesa) is worn around the neck by Buddhist monks pledging to serve the Buddha during a ceremony. This sash is specific to the Zenkoji temple in Nagano. It is white with red inscriptions and illustrations. The sash is attached at the bottom.

  • Good condition considering its age. Discoloration on red inscriptions. Stains on fabric, dirt on fabric. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos carefully.
