Vintage Japanese Buddhist Art Petal Paper
This is a set of 3 Buddhist paper pieces shaped like lotus flower petals, called Sange in Japanese, and used during services. These particular sange are likely from the Yakushiji temple in Nara. Two of them feature an image of the top of a pagoda on one side and a colorful Buddhist illustration on the other side. The third petal is red with the name of the temple printed on one side.
People often keep sange at the end of a Buddhist service as a souvenir and as a lucky item. The lotus flower is an important symbol in Buddhism: the top of the flower is a pure place, and many of the Buddha statues in temples have lotus flowers carved on the pedestals they sit on.
