This is a vintage Japanese Buddhist altar fitting a wooden sutra table (Kyozukue) or Wasanjyoku table. It is painted with gold and black lacquer. Kyozukue is a table on which sutras (scriptures and sacred teachings) are placed. Or put an incense burner or prayer beads.
