Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Orin Bell
This is a vintage Japanese orin bell for Buddhist altars. It contains a large plain bronze bowl with a wooden striker covered in a suede animal skin. It rests on a pillow made of vibrant red, green, and gold fabric with a floral design (pillow is newer replacement for the original). Singing bowls are sounded during ritual prayer.
The orin bell sound can reach the Buddha in the Pure Land. It is also used to ward off people's evil spirits and convey prayers to the Buddha, ancestors, and the deceased through sound.
