Vintage Japanese Bamboo Shabu Shabu Serving Dishes
This is a vintage Japanese stacking set of shabu shabu meat serving dishes. Made entirely of bamboo, these dishes have a removable bamboo panel in the bottom for easy clean up. The three tiers stack neatly and have ample clearance between the two for a layer of meat for each plate.
Shabu shabu is a Japanese meal where one boils a pot of dashi in various flavors (kombu, soy sauce, yuzu, etc) and drags very thin slices of meat through the hot water for a few seconds until it is cooked and ready to eat. Vegetables and noodles are often added to the pot as a sort of nabe.
This was purchased at the famous Osu Antique Market in Nagoya
