Taiwanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku
This vintage hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) by Taiwanese artist Bunkan Cho features a black-and-white landscape with mountains, a river, clouds and house. This style is called sansui, literally mountains and water. This piece is titled, dated and it is signed with a name and red seals. There's a label on the outside of the scroll.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
