Vtg Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Scroll
This is a Japanese vintage silk and paper hanging scroll (Owakigake) representing the Buddhist monk Shinran, founder of the Jodo Shinshu sect. The monk is sitting and holding a prayer bracelet in his hands. This scroll is an icon displayed in Japanese Buddhist home altars, Butsudan. It is a powerful religious image, aimed to be at the center of an altar. This Owakigake is dark blue and red with gold floral details.
