Vtg Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Scroll

This Japanese vintage paper hanging scroll (kakejiku) features an image of Shinran, a Buddhist monk founder of the Jodo Shinshu sect. It is a side scroll, or wakigake, part of a pair of scrolls to be displayed on each side of a central scroll or a statue. It is a powerful religious image, aimed to be at the center of an altar. This kakejiku is dark brown and gold with a floral pattern. The image is gold, black, blue and white.
