Vtg Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Shoyo Daishi Icon
This is a Japanese vintage paper hanging scroll (right Owakigake) representing Dogen (Shoyo Daishi), one of the founder of the Soto school of Zen. This scroll is an icon displayed in Japanese Buddhist home altars, Butsudan. It is a powerful religious image, aimed to be at the center of an altar. This Owakigake is dark blue and red with gold embellishments. It is embellished with metal parts on the bottom.
