Vtg Japanese Doll Shishi Mai
Details: This is a vintage Japanese Shishimai doll from Japan. This Shishimai doll is made of different kinds of fabric, stuffed with cotton. The tail part has weights inside it. Shishimai is used in Lion Dance performances during the New Years Festival or Oshogatsu, a culturally significant time in the Japanese calendar year. Shishimai dance was introduced in Japan during the 7th or 8th century during Japan’s frequent missions to China’s Tang Court. These dances are meant to ward off evil spirits, pray for peace, wish for bountiful harvests and good health.
