Antique Japanese Wooden Storage Box
This antique Japanese large wooden box is simple yet sturdy. According to the Japanese characters painted on the box, it was once used to store pottery. It features 2 pieces of wood used as handles on each side. The lid sits on top and also features characters. It is perfect for storing general pottery pieces (vases, bowls, etc), dolls, and trinkets, and can also be used for DIY decoration.
Wooden boxes are a common way to safely store delicate pottery, vases, and other ceramic, clay, and glass items in Japan. In addition to pottery, they are also widely used for a wide range of other traditional Japanese crafts, including kimono accessories, wrapping cloths, chopsticks, commemorative gifts, and even food.
