 Antique Japanese Buddhist Zushi Shrine

This is an antique Japanese Buddhist zushi shrine, a lacquered wooden reliquary box to store a Buddhist statue. This zushi shrine is black on the outside and gold on the inside. It has painted details sculpted in the wood on the top part. The kohai or aureola placed behind the Buddhist icon is fixed onto the wood. The statue is missing.

  • Approx. 27 cm tall x 8.6 cm wide x 11.5 cm long
  • Good condition considering age. Marks. Peeled lacquer on the bottom back. Damage on the metal hinge (right door, top hinge), the door still opens and closes smoothly. Chips on the left door (top part). Inside bottom is damaged. Wear and tear due to use. Please see the photos.
