This is a vintage Japanese gimlet, Kiri for woodworking. This gimlet blade is twisted. A gimlet is a tool for making small holes by hand. It is used for drilling holes in soft materials such as wood, and for drilling pilot holes that serve as guides for accurately driving nails and screws.
