Vintage Japanese Wooden Decorative Plaque
This is a large vintage Japanese wooden decorative ema plaque with a stand. It features a painting of a temple gate, Nio-mon on the front, and a Buddhist sutra on the back. It comes with a paper box.
Ema is a small wooden plaque used at Shinto shrines, and sometimes Buddhist temples, which worshipers can write their wishes, hopes, and dreams. Once written, it is hung on a special wooden stand or tree where the kami (spirits or gods) are thought to receive them.
