Vintage Japanese Wooden Shrine Plaque, Ema
This vintage Japanese ema plaque features a parade of festival floats with Ebisu and Daikokuten figures representing the Seven Lucky Gods (shichifukujin). There is also a line design of a tengu mask as well as a crane with a red sun. This was given as a thank you for participating in the Ogaki Festival. It has a red, braided cord tied to the top.
Ema is a small wooden plaque used at Shinto shrines, and sometimes Buddhist temples, that worshipers can write their wishes, hopes, and dreams on. Once written, it is hung on a special wooden stand or tree where the kami (spirits or gods) are thought to receive them.
