Japanese Maigasa Umbrella w/Fabric Case
Whether paired with a beautiful kimono or in the hands of an elegant Geisha, Japanese traditional umbrellas (wagasa) are a popular fashion accessory as well as an eye-catching home decor piece. Maigasa, in particular, are used for performance by dancers.
This vintage Japanese umbrella is covered in a sheer fabric with purple paper at the edge. The headpiece at the very top is a lacquered black cap. The outer ribs are painted with black lacquer to match. The inner frame is made of bamboo painted black with white string to tie it all together. The handle is made of a combination of wood, resin plastic, and metal painted black with a metal stopper pin and a beige resin plastic coil handle. This item is unique in that it has a shorter overall width and longer handle than most. It also screws apart at the middle of the handle for easy storage. It comes with a two-layer fabric case (white and yellow).
