Vintage Japanese Shinto/Buddhist Offering Tray
This is a vintage wooden offering tray stand for Shinto and Buddhist ceremonies called sanbou or sanpo respectively. Made of classic cypress wood, this small stand has eight sides and stands on a similarly shaped pedestal. It is used to make offerings to Shinto gods, to represent the Three Treasures of Buddhism (Sangha, Dharma, and Buddha) during religious services, as well as to present objects to noble people in ancient times.
