Vintage Japanese Porcelain Mini Tea Set
This is a vintage Japanese porcelain tea set. It is a miniature and can be used for display or for dolls. The teapot is a side-handle style (yokode kyusu) and has two matching cups. It is white with a black silhouette of a cormorant fisherman in a boat during a bold red sunset. It also has a gold accent on the lid, spout, handle, and rim of the tea cups.
Cormorant fishing, ukai, is a famous tradition still performed on the Nagara River in Gifu, Japan during summer. The birds catch sweetfish from the river rather than via the standard fishing pole or net.
