Japanese Ceramic Mortar Grinding Bowl

This is a large Japanese ceramic mortar (suribachi) for spices and sesame in a terracotta brown and beige color. A fine system of grooves is carved into the bowl. This is a typical ceramic mortar commonly used in Japan and would be used with a wooden or stone pestle. This bowl is perfect for grinding and milling large quantities of spices and herbs to preserve their flavor and freshness for food and medicines. 
A pestle is not included.
