Japanese Maigasa Umbrella w/ Fabric Case
Whether paired with a beautiful kimono or in the hands of an elegant Geisha, Japanese traditional umbrellas (wagasa) are a popular fashion accessory as well as an eye-catching home decor piece. Maigasa, in particular, are used for performance by dancers.
This vintage Japanese umbrella is covered in thin washi paper in a banded blue and white pattern. The headpiece at the very top is a lacquered black cap. The outer ribs are painted with black lacquer to match with red tips. The inside frame is stained a greenish black color and it is held all together by multi-colored strings. The handle is made of a combination of bamboo and metal painted black with a metal stopper pin and a white resin plastic coil handle. It twists apart at the center for more compact storage. As a plus, this umbrella comes with a white fabric case.
