Vtg. Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Orin Bell Fabric Pillow
This is a vintage Japanese orin bell pillow or cushion for Buddhist altars. It is made of six different colors. The light yellow, red, pink, and light blue are made of chirimen silk fabric. Then there is a deep blue and gold chrysanthemum design as well as a bright orange, gold, and yellow hishi (rhombus/diamond design). It is in a raised floral shape with a cheery yellow tassel at the center. This multicolor piece is certainly eye-catching.
Singing bowls are sounded during ritual prayer. Orin bell sound can reach the Buddha in the Pure Land. It is also used to ward off people's evil spirits and convey prayers to the Buddha, ancestors, and the deceased through sound. The pillows help stabilize the bowl, balance the sound, as well as a personal design choice for the user.
