Vtg Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Scroll
This Japanese vintage paper hanging scroll (wakikake) represents Emperor Hanazono who became a Buddhist monk and founder of Myoshin-ji Temple, and is associated to Rinzai (Linji) Zen Buddhism. This scroll is an icon displayed in Japanese Buddhist home altars, Butsudan. It is a powerful religious image, aimed to be at the center of an altar. This wakikake is brown and gold with a floral pattern. The image is green and brown with a gold background.
