Japanese Decorative Imitation Sword
This is a vintage Japanese decorative imitation sword. The blade is made of metal crafted to look like a sharpened edge (not sharp) with a metal guard (tsuba) and a handle made of gold cord, wood, and textured plastic resin sheets. The guard is made or iron and features the traditional kikkou/kikkoumon hexagonal pattern the resembles a tortoise shell and symbolizes longevity. Woven into the handle are iron dragon charms called menuki. The sheath is wood coated with striking nashiji lacquer which is a gorgeous copper color that sparkles. There are other metal embellishments with the dragon motif such as at the top and base of the handle.
Often used in stage plays, traditional theatre, historical reenactments, during festivals, and for general cosplay, imitation swords are also a popular decorative object.
