Antique Japanese Makie Bento Box Lid Decoration

This is an antique lid of a bento box intended to be used as home decoration. It is made of wood lacquered black on the front side and red on the back. It features a beautifully detailed image of a royal carriage cart (kago). It is also called gyusha or goshoguruma, a cart drawn by an ox. It is a really popular motif. It is paired with lush pine trees.
Maki-e is a decorative painting technique done by sprinkling gold powder onto wet lacquer before it hardens.
