Vtg Japanese Obijime Kimono Belt Accessory
This is a Japanese vintage obijime. A combination of light green and shimmering gold, this wide and flat (hiragumi) style traditionally braided kumihimo cord is flexible and easy to tie. There is green on one side and gold on the other, however, at the very end and in the center are two places where the green and gold are braided together to creature a textured design.
An obijime is a braided cord that wraps around the outside of the obi sash to keep it in shape. Because there are limitless colors, materials, and styles, they are often used as a decorative accent for kimonos in addition to their main function. Obijime is only used for women's kimonos, not men's kimonos.
