Vtg Japanese Ceramic Cooking Fat Skimmer Pot
This is a small vintage ceramic Japanese pot called araire. It is a useful and unique accessory for nabe and shabushabu. The pot is filled with a shallow layer of water, then, when the hotpot/shabushabu/stew/etc has fat or scum floating on the surface, you use a fine sieve ladle to collect it. After, you dip the sieve into the water inside the pot to clean it off. It also acts as a storage pot for both sieve ladle as well as a regular small serving ladle.
This particular pot is oribe ware defined by the beige base glaze and mossy green accent with brown designs. The designs featured are a ginkgo leaf and pinecone.
