Japanese Maegawara For Chagama Kettle Brazier
This is a vintage Japanese ceramic maegawara plate used inside the brazier for a cast iron chagama kettle. It is a round unglazed white plate with a chrysanthemum stamp at the center that is in front of the fire window on a large chagama's brazier to prevent fire, sparks, and ash from coming out and setting fire to tatami flooring. Chagama are used in Japanese tea ceremonies for heating water. This plate is an often forgotten piece of a chagama and brazier set.
