Vintage Japanese Clay Bell Dorei
This is a set of vintage Japanese clay bells or dorei. Featuring three pieces representing monkeys, it symbolizes the Three Wise Monkeys. Each face has a unique color: reddish brown, dark green, mustard yellow. They all have a small clay ball inside and are attached by a braided yellow string tied at the top.
Dorei bells have a long history and have been used in festivals and ceremonies since the Jomon period (about 13000 to 2300 years ago) when they were said to have the power to ward off evil spirits.
