Vintage Japanese Buddhist Altar Butsudan Sliding Door Panel
This item comes from a Japanese vintage wooden Buddhist altar cabinet. This solid sliding door panel is mostly coated in glossy classic black lacquer. The front contains a gold-painted border along with brass metal embellishments and an exquisite gold makie village scenery design complete with pine trees, buildings, and boats. It also has slices of raden (abalone shell) included in the design for extra shimmer and detail. This piece can be used as a sliding panel or as a decorative art piece.
In Japan, the Buddhist altar is a place to enshrine the principal image that is the center of faith, and is a sacred place to hold memorial services for ancestors as a "small temple in the home".
