Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Flower Vase
This is a vintage Japanese metal flower vase, or hanatate, for Buddhist altars. It is common to offer a range of seasonal and symbolic flowers in front of a Buddhist altar. It is also a vessel for Sakaki leaves or Shashagi leaves in Shinto. The offering of Sakaki tree leaves signifies that the gods living in the sakaki tree will protect the grave and the soul.
