Vintage Japanese Handwoven Zaru Basket
Handwoven with delicately thin strips of natural-colored bamboo, this round versatile vintage Japanese zaru kitchen basket has always been a popular household item. Narrow gaps and bamboo's resilience to water create the perfect surface and container for washing and drying food. It also makes an excellent colander.
The most common use today is for zaru-soba, an iconic cold summer dish made of buckwheat noodles (soba) that is dipped in a cold soy sauce and dashi stock dip.
