Vtg Japanese Wooden Haribako Sewing Chest
This is a Japanese sewing box, also called Haribako. This chest (Tansu) has 3 drawers. This can also be used for storing jewelry or other trinkets. This is Yaki-Sugi's tansu chest. Yaki-Sugi (charred the surface of cedar wood) is a traditional Japanese method of wood preservation. By slightly charring the surface of cedar wood without combusting the whole plank, the wood becomes water-proof through carbonization and is thus more durable.
