Antique Japanese Wooden Storage Box for Buddhist Altar Fittings
Wooden boxes are a common method of safely keeping and storing delicate pottery, vases, and other ceramic, clay, and glass items in Japan. In addition to pottery, they are also widely used for a plethora of other traditional Japanese crafts including kimono accessories, wrapping cloths, chopsticks, commemorative gifts, etc.
This unique antique storage box with a vertical fitted lid with knob is made for a five piece set of Buddhist altar fittings (gokusoku) that go inside a butsudan. There are seven total compartments, two of which have small removable wood panels (likely non-storage spacers). It can also be used for general storage of trinkets or use for display or other crafts/projects.

- Outside: 13.5 x 42.5 x 28 cm
- Good condition considering age. One side bracket is missing. Crack in lid and back panel. Gap between bottom of lid and base of box. Some scratches and discoloration. Wood is fragile. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos carefully.
