Vintage Japanese Wooden Lacquered Serving Tray w/ Box
This is a Japanese vintage wooden lacquered tray, or Obon, typically used for serving drinks and snacks to guests in one's home, business, etc. A lovely caramel brown in color with a black base and gold rim, this stylish and sturdy rectangular tray provides both function and beautiful decor. It features a maki-e design of a small bird on a tree branch with persimmons.
The gold designs are called maki-e, a decorative painting technique done by sprinkling gold powder onto wet lacquer before it hardens.
The original box is included.
This was purchased at the famous Osu Antique Market in Nagoya
