Vintage Japanese Katagami of Shochikubai Patterned Fans w/ Wood Frame

In a simple brown wood frame, this Ise katagami textile stencil made from mulberry paper displays the image of three fans. Together, the fans have a shochikubai pattern, a traditional set of imagery that includes pine, bamboo, and plum blossom. It is a common association with New Year and the winter season as it symbolizes perseverance and renewal.
While katagami is typically used for printing images on fabrics such as kimono, it has become a popular item to frame and or further decorate for wall art. As such, its intricate designs made by hand-cutting the paper make it a beautiful piece to use in home and office decor.
The katagami design is adhered to a fibrous backing paper.
