Vintage Japanese Wooden Fishing Basket

This is a vintage Japanese woven wooden basket originally used for fishing and keeping small fish, crabs, etc. Handwoven with delicate, thin strips of wood and vine in a classic tight weave pattern, this basket is also an ideal decorative item for storing other household things. It has a wide lid that plugs the top hole and can be used as a small net, scoop, or place to store tools (as well as a smaller lid that may be used for keeping in bait). It also has a brown rope attached to the back side for tying around the waist or fastening to other things.
