Vtg. Japanese Wooden Storage Box
Wooden boxes are a common method of safely keeping and storing delicate pottery, vases, and other ceramic, clay, and glass items in Japan. In addition to pottery, they are also widely used for a plethora of other traditional Japanese crafts including kimono accessories, wrapping cloths, chopsticks, commemorative gifts, etc.
This vintage open rectangular box is originally made for transporting soumen (a type of thin noodle), but is perfect for storing trinkets or use for display or other crafts/projects. At a later time, it seems this piece was also repurposed as a place to put important paperwork.
