Vintage Japanese Wagasa Umbrella
Whether paired with a beautiful kimono or in the hands of an elegant Geisha, Japanese traditional umbrellas (wagasa) are a popular fashion accessory as well as an eye-catching home decor piece.
Simple in design, this wagasa parasol is made with a rich burgundy red paper. The headpiece at the very top is red vinyl fabric and brown paper with a metal topper that has a loop on the end. The inner frame is tied together with gold string. The handle is made of slender bamboo with white vinyl cord and metal cap. Closed, the outer ribs create a black band and spotted yellow design. This would be an excellent piece for DIY repair or repapering.
