Japanese Maigasa Umbrella
Whether paired with a beautiful kimono or in the hands of an elegant Geisha, Japanese traditional umbrellas (wagasa) are a popular fashion accessory as well as an eye-catching home decor piece. Maigasa, in particular, are used for performance by dancers.
This umbrella is covered with bright pink woven fabric. The headpiece at the very top is a lacquered black cap. The outer ribs are painted with black lacquer to match. The handle is made of wood with a metal stopper pin. This item is unique in that it has a shorter overall width and longer handle than most. The handle can be unscrewed at the mid-point for easy storage.
