 Japanese Wooden Jibukuro Tokonoma Alcove Stand

This is a vintage Japanese wooden jibukuro or a storage platform stand for a chigaidana (staggered shelves) often built next to a Japanese tokonoma alcove. It is a small cabinet with four sliding doors at the bottom. It can sit on top of a baseboard level with the rest of the tokonoma or stand alone. This large piece is a lovely medium brown wood color and has decorative zigzag carved posts on the two front-facing corners.

  • Good condition considering its age. Some scratches. Large chip on back bottom corner. Other small chips and nicks on sharp exposed edges. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos.
