Vintage Japanese Pottery Sake Bottle Kayoi-Tokkuri 

This is a vintage Japanese ceramic sake bottle. It is called a Kayoi-Tokkuri and is used to pour sake. The commuting sake bottle became popular as a rental container for liquor stores in the Edo period when sake began to be consumed on a daily basis. This sake bottle is a commemorative bottle. It has a dark brown, almost black glossy glaze with handwritten Japanese characters designed with a masking technique. It has a removable cork and is decorated with an attached string.
