Vtg Japanese Obijime Kimono Belt Accessory

This is a Japanese vintage obijime. A soft sandy tan brown color that leans toward green in different lighting, this wide and flat (hiragumi) style traditionally braided cord has staggered textured sections along its length and the tiniest gold accent that shimmers through with generous tassels on the ends.

An obijime is a braided cord that wraps around the outside of the obi sash to keep it in shape. Because there are limitless colors, materials, and styles, they are often used as a decorative accent for kimonos in addition to their main function. Obijime is only used for women's kimonos, not men's kimonos.
